Getting Ready for Air Conditioning Season

April 30, 2016

Summer isn’t officially here but the temperatures are definitely rising and that means it’s time for cooling season. Before the temperatures soar and you’re running your air conditioning unit constantly to stay comfortable, go ahead and call your AC service technician to come out and perform your yearly ac maintenance.

In addition to a Precision A/C tune-up, there are a few other ways you can prepare for the cooling season before higher temperatures are officially here to stay.

  • Clean Your System

No, we aren’t implying that you should take your air conditioning unit apart, let an expert do that, but you can clean up the area around your A/C to remove branches and foliage that have made their way to your A/C system during the windy winter and stormy spring. Keep the grass trimmed around the A/C and trim back any overgrown plants or vegetation to make sure your A/C system is clear of debris. Clearing the air way can help keep your air conditioning unit running properly.

·     Change Your Home’s Air Filters

Bob Brown Service Experts will replace your home’s basic air filters when they conduct your air conditioning tune-up as part of your standard A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also replace your HVAC air filters in between maintenance visits, and it’s recommended that you do so at least every 30-60 days for optimal performance. If you don’t replace your filter it accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of you and your loved ones and the efficiency of your A/C system, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your regular air conditioning service. Also, a clogged filter could possibly damage your A/C system.

  • Block the Sun

Help block the sun from heating up your home by hanging blackout drapes or window shades. These window coverings may also help keep your furniture and floors from fading or experiencing sun damage over time.

·     Check Alarm Batteries

If you forgot to check the batteries in your smoke and CO detectors over daylight savings, now is the time. Don’t forget to also check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is working properly so you don’t end up calling your HVAC company because your A/C isn’t turning on and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider installing a smart thermostat so you can adjust the temperature away from home and save money on your utility bills.

A seasonal A/C system tune-up service could make your system up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your cooling bills. Call Bob Brown Service Experts today to make sure your air conditioner is prepared to keep you cool and comfortable all summer and find out about our spring specials on AC Precision tune-ups.
